Responsible for providing the maintenance and engineering support required to meet the plant objectives of safety, customer service, and efficiency. Responsible for overseeing repairs, installations, and upkeep of equipment and plant facilities to ensure maximum contribution to safety, quality, and productivity of the plant. Accountable for designing maintenance procedures, tracking repairs, and maintenance budget and expenses. Efficiently manages mechanical and administrative duties of the maintenance department.
Essential Job Duties:
Responsible for the maintenance and checking of safety devices, e.g., guards, pressure relief devices, safety systems, fire protection equipment, etc
Works with planner in planning and scheduling the assignment of maintenance work orders and monitors the corrective actions made
Develops and writes plant maintenance procedures
Develops, assists, and implements reliability programs
Instructs and guides the maintenance supervisor/planner to ensure that the maintenance personnel perform the necessary inspections, installations, and repairs in a safe and efficient manner
Advises personnel in other departments on matters relating to the safe and efficient functioning of plant equipment and facilities
Prepares and/or assists in the preparation of plant maintenance and capital project budgets.
Develops, implements, and monitors programs to assure the efficient use of maintenance and contractor labor and materials.
Ensures operational efficiency of the Baton Rouge Plant through timely inspection and repair of equipment and mechanical systems
Coordinates maintenance work with other departments to minimize overall cost of maintenance and to minimize downtime and delays
Initiates and carries out preventive maintenance schedules on equipment and facilities that would otherwise result in costly breakdown repairs
Consults with maintenance supervisor/planner to ensure that needed spare parts are carried in the storeroom where such inventory would result in less downtime or more efficient maintenance
Requests supplies and spare parts using standard company procedures giving sufficient details for ordering and adequate time for delivery
Requests new and replacement parts or equipment that is of good quality and reliability and meets all federal, state, and Oxbow codes and specifications
Responds to employee suggestions or comments in a manner that will induce cooperative efforts.
Observes and evaluates performance of the maintenance department personnel and initiates recommendations or disciplinary reports as necessary
Monitors plant maintenance departments effectiveness and proposes organizational changes necessary to meet departmental objectives
Performs or supervises special plant studies in support of plant projects
Coordinates and oversees maintenance projects performed by outside contractors
Monitors and controls the use of company-provided tools, equipment, and consumable items in the maintenance department
Ensures that the work areas, equipment, and work practices comply with regulatory codes, statues, and company requirements
Reports all injuries and any safety incidents, regardless of seriousness, immediately to the plant manager.
Advises the plant manager on matters relating to the improvement and the continued safe functioning of plant equipment and facilities
Assists in the development of written safety procedures prepared for jobs performed by the maintenance department
Ensures compliance with safety, personnel, timekeeping, payroll, attendance and other plant procedures or guidelines
Maintains communication with the plant manager on matters concerning daily activities and concerns
Works with each direct report to establish goals and objectives for each year and monitor and advise on the progress to enhance the professional development of staff
Actively participate in plant health & safety processes, including safety committees, health & safety inspections, safety meetings/toolbox talks, job safety analysis (JSAs), incident/near miss investigations, and formal monthly safety training.
Identify when Root Cause Analysis needs to be performed and assign team members to lead and participate.
Reviews and approves RCAs lead by the plant.
Supports continual improvement, tracks and reports reliability and efficiency metrics, optimizes use of the computerized maintenance management system, develops and implements preventive/predictive maintenance programs.
Supports management with special projects and workflow process improvements and other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Effective communication skills required. Communicates or exchanges ideas by means of verbal or written words to impart information to clients or to the public and to convey detailed instructions to other workers. Effectively tailors the message to the needs of the audience.
Experience in establishing goals and objectives which are specific, measurable, achievable, and relevant required
Proven record of work laid out in a well-planned and organized manner.
Proficient in computer use, Microsoft Office applications and data analysis
Education and Experience
Technical School related to field required, Bachelors Degree in Engineering or Industrial Technology or related field preferred.
Five to ten years of maintenance, engineering or supervisory/managerial experience preferred.
Experience in maintenance of facilities and mechanical systems required.
Experience with Maintenance Management system preferred.
Typically works in plant environment, which may include extreme working conditions and inclement weather conditions.
As needed, lifts, carries, or otherwise moves and positions objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
Must be able to work in confined spaces and in elevated work areas.
Must be able to handle working petroleum coke products and be around vapors with respiratory protection.
Must be able to work with wrenches, pipe wrenches and other tools; requires turning and tightening nuts and bolts.
Must be able to load and unload heavy equipment, either with manual labor or by operating heavy machinery.
Must be able to pass general physically fit testing.
Must train in safety and hazmat requirements at the facility.
Required to move about to coordinate work.
Valid Drivers license required.
Work may require occasional weekend and/or evening work.
Must be able to travel as needed.
