Job Description:

Roles and Responsibilities
• Performs lab analysis.
• Ensures quality control.
• Performs physical tests to develop data and information on incoming coke, in-process coke, calcined coke and loaded coke. Such tests include Real Density, Volatile Matter, Ash, XRF Analysis, VBD analysis, Tapped Density and others as necessary.
• Calculates data; Performs data entry into the computer system and reports analysis to managing personnel
• Prepares samples for shipment.
• Performs environmental water sampling.
• Calibrates laboratory equipment.
• Applies SPC principles to ensure that the laboratory equipment is within calibration.
• Writes work orders for repair and maintenance of Laboratory equipment and facilities.
• Performs audits of plant systems and procedures.
• Enters requisitions for laboratory supplies.
• Provides technical support and guidance for Port Arthur laboratory operations: procedure writing and training.

Safety of Personnel and Physical Assets
• Ensures work areas, equipment and work practices are in compliance with the regulatory code and company requirements.
• Reports all injuries, regardless of seriousness, immediately to the Technical manager

Product Quality
• Performs work in a highly functional and consistent manner.
• Ensures that work performed meets the job specifications

Personnel and Organization
• Ensures compliance with safety, personnel, attendance and other plant procedures and guidelines.
• Coordinates lab activities with sampler, Chemist, and Quality Manager.
• Interfaces with plant operations by supplying the necessary quality control data.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule and rotate on call duty

Qualifications
• Basic knowledge of X-Ray Fluorescence Spectrometry and ICP with an understanding of ISO 9001 Quality systems is a plus. Applicant must have a good work history, be safety oriented and willing to work in a team atmosphere.
Education and Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Science or Engineering
• Minimum of 1 year of lab experience preferred
• Strong computer skills (Excel, Word)
• Excellent communication skills
• Detail oriented
