Job Description: 

Summary:

Maintains all mechanical equipment through the direction of manpower in a safe manner.

Essential Job Duties:
• Ensures compliance of subordinates to all state, federal and company guidelines and regulations including; OMS, OSHA, EPA, and ISO-9002.
• Coordinates work with needs of other departments.
• Directs repairs to all plant process equipment through hourly workforce or contract labor.
• Maintains the mechanical and aesthetic integrity of plant buildings and storage facilities.
• Organizes assigned maintenance/project work with available manpower to meet required priorities and timing.
• Inspects plant equipment and facilitates repairs as needed.
• Directs predictive/preventive maintenance efforts on plant equipment.
• Schedules, directs and authorizes payment for contractors as assigned or needed to maintain
specialized equipment.
• Develops & maintains mechanical PM schedules as required.
• Coordinates ordering of required materials with warehouse.
• Responsible for “off-hour” and “relief” maintenance supervision as required.
• Works with engineers, supervisors, and hourly workforce to maintain and improve plant operations.
• Provides regular repair work & project status reports.
• Maintains equipment log books and files.
• Develops hourly personnel through training and group meetings. Actively encourages participation in; OMS, Quality, and Safety.
• Conducts group meetings, planned inspections and compliance checks.
• Enforces all safety rules and promptly rectifies violations.
• Reviews and renews annual blanket purchase contracts as required.
• Maintains scheduling of maintenance mechanics including cell phone schedule for “on-call” mechanics.
• Works with each apprentice to establish goals and objectives for each year and monitor and advise on the progress to enhance the apprenticeship program.
• Supports management with special projects and workflow process improvements and other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Communicates clearly and concisely in a variety of communication settings and styles. Effectively tailors the message to the needs of the audience.
• Establishes goals and objectives which are specific, measurable, achievable and relevant.
• Lays out work in a well-planned and organized manner.

Education and Experience:
• College, technical school or mechanical experience required.
• Five to ten years with a minimum of four to six years of supervisory experience in industrial maintenance area.
• Must be familiar with a unionized work group and have management training to support interaction of labor & management.

Physical Requirements:
• Typically works in plant environment, which may include extreme working conditions and inclement weather conditions.
• As needed, lifts, carries or otherwise moves and positions objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Must be able to work in confined spaces and in elevated work areas.
• Must be able to handle working petroleum coke products and be around vapors with respiratory protection.
• Must be able to work with wrenches, pipe wrenches and other tools; requires turning and tightening nuts and bolts.
• Must be able to load and unload heavy equipment, either with manual labor or by operating heavy machinery.
• Must be able to pass general physically fit testing.
• Must train in safety and hazmat requirements at the facility.
• Must be required to move about to coordinate work.
• Ability to communicate or exchange ideas by means of verbal or written word to impart information to clients or to the public and to convey detailed Instructions to other workers.
• Work may require occasional weekend and/or evening work.
• Must be able to travel as needed.
