James R. Freney
Executive Vice President of Activated Carbon & Special Projects
James (Jim) Freney joined Oxbow Carbon LLC in September 2012 as Executive Vice President of Corporate Development. Following Oxbow’s acquisition of Carbon Resources LLC, he was appointed head of the new activated carbon line of business. A native of Gladwyne, PA, Mr. Freney graduated from The Haverford School before earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from Duke University.
From 2002 to 2012, Mr. Freney was Managing Director of Callisto Partners LLC, a boutique investment banking firm which he co-founded. While at Callisto, Mr. Freney advised Oxbow on its key acquisition transactions, including the purchases of AIMCOR, Great Lakes Carbon LLC, SSM Coal, Petroleum Coke Industries Company and the ICEC Group.
Previously Mr. Freney was a Managing Director of the M&A Group at Prudential Securities Inc. Prior to joining Prudential Securities Inc., he was a Managing Director at Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein (formerly Dresdner Kleinwort Benson), based at various times in New York and London, where he concentrated on advising industrial clients on a wide range of cross-border M&A and financing transactions. He has executed more than 75 M&A transactions representing more than $28 billion in aggregate value.
Mr. Freney currently is a member of The Society of The Four Arts (Palm Beach), The Cato Institute (Washington, D.C.), and the Asia Society (New York). Mr. Freney lives in Palm Beach with his wife and two children.
